I really love wordpress, now that was the exact idea I want this post to begin with. Simply because I was just thinking before to create a customize 404 pages for my blog, and then I thought, wordpress should have plugins that suggest alternative posts based on the url keywords of your 404 pages. And on my surprise, there really are plugins furnished for that exact job.

So, who wouldn’t love wordpress? So I hurriedly tried some and here they are:

404 SEO

This plugin show relevant alternative posts based on the keywords on the url of your “page not found” page.

“Installing this plugin is beneficial for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) because it will make your site appear to have relevant pages even for those URLs that you actually don’t have. This can increase your search engine ranking.”

Smart 404

“Instead of quickly giving up when a visitor reaches a page that doesn’t exist, make an effort to guess what they were after in the first place. This plugin will perform a search of your posts, tags and categories, using keywords from the requested URL. If there’s a match, redirect to that page instead of showing the error. If there’s more than one match, the 404 template can use some template tags to provide a list of suggestions to the visitor

Redirection Plugin

This plugin logs all 404 entry pages your visitors made. When logged, you can now create 301 redirectionpages to easily remapped those loose urls. Very useful especially if you can identify that a certain url was used multiple times as a 404 page.

404 Notifier

Sometimes, you just want to be notified via email if a 404 page was used, exactly when and where it happened.

Hope these collections can help you blog as they helped mine.

New to this? Why not link to this page? Just don’t create any 404 page again, okay =)
